Cambridge Who’s Who Supports ACS
Cambridge Who’s Who, a global networking resource for executives, professionals and entrepreneurs, is an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). ACS fights cancer through patient service, rehabilitation, advocacy, research and education. The Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Board is enthusiastic to include ACS as a part of the Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Program.
ACS’s national organization is dedicated to eliminating and preventing cancer, saving lives and decreasing the number of people who suffer from cancer every day. The ACS has a national office and 13 chartered divisions spread throughout the United States. As one of the oldest and largest voluntary health agencies in the U.S., the Society has more than 2 million volunteers nationwide and 3,400 local offices.
ACS was founded in 1946 with a $1 million endowment, and, to date, has invested almost $3 billion on cancer research. Using donations to fund research is one of ACS’s top priorities after cancer education and prevention. In fact, the only organization to spend more on cancer research is the federal government. ACS has put into place numerous prevention programs to help children and adults make healthy choices in their lives. The Society also tries to promote early detection by encouraging regular doctor visits and cancer screenings.
One of the most well-known events hosted by ACS to raise money for cancer awareness and to celebrate cancer survivors is the Relay for Life. This program is a tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer, those who are currently faced with cancer and those who have survived cancer. At Relay for Life, teams of people take turns running around a track or walking a lap at the event site. The goal is for each team to keep at least one member of their team on the track at all times. More than 23 countries around the world participate in Relay for Life events. Nationally, more than three million supporters take part in this event. Cambridge Who’s Who is committed to the fight against cancer, especially because it is headquartered in Long Island, an area known for high rates of new breast cancer cases and mortality. Cambridge Who’s Who recognizes that we all have to do our part to help eliminate cancer. By donating funds to ACS, Cambridge Who’s Who hopes to advance their efforts to find a cure for cancer. The Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Program will support ACS in its mission to eradicate cancer. Together, Cambridge Who’s Who and the American Cancer Society share a hope for a cancer-free future.
