Cambridge Who’s Who Supports the Jack Martin Fund
Cambridge Who’s Who among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs is committed to supporting philanthropic endeavors that positively impact society. In its mission to find worthy, charitable organizations, the Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Program has funds set aside for communities in the vicinity of Uniondale, NY – the location of its corporate headquarters. The Jack Martin Fund located in New York City was chosen as part of this community outreach program established by the Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Board.
The Fund began when Jack Martin, a business executive, died at the age of 34 from polio; an acute viral infectious disease. Friends, family and associates established the Fund in his memory. Initial donations to the Fund were set aside to create a memorial for Martin and a respiratory center was erected at Mount Sinai, NY, where he was treated.
Now in its 56th year, the Fund has grown well beyond its original scope. It has established the largest children’s diabetes clinic in New York City, developed heart-assist devices to eliminate the need for additional open-heart surgery, created a specialized clinic for the early detection of cervix cancer and created a clinic for HIV out-patient care. In addition, the Fund establishes grants to conduct seminal research in heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, ileitis and colitis, occupational lung disease and the effectiveness of certain drugs and chemical compounds in patients with cancer.
The Jack Martin Fund has contributed more than $25 million to Mount Sinai Hospital, furthering their progress in human health through education, research and technology. Today, the Fund has dedicated itself to yet another life-saving program; the new department at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City will include an out-patient building, faculty practice area and the Mount Sinai Children’s Center. Children with leukemia and cancer will be treated in new examination, treatment, and consultation rooms. The facility will also include an out-patient play area for children with leukemia and cancer who are being treated with chemotherapy and blood product infusions.
The Cambridge Who’s Who Corporate Giving Board and its philanthropic efforts reflect its dedication to fund scientific research initiatives to cure devastating diseases, improve health and human services and increase awareness about disease prevention and treatment options. The spirit of philanthropy is deeply embedded in the culture of Cambridge Who’s Who and has manifested itself in the dozens of other programs Cambridge Who’s Who has supported and partnerships Cambridge Who’s Who has engaged in that have significantly impacted those in need.
