Veneta Greene Raising Funds for Nu Life Village

Cambridge Who's Who Member Veneta GreeneVeneta Greene is a lifetime member of Cambridge Who’s Who and president and CEO of Career Prep 2000, Inc., a non-profit organization that aims to reduce the need for more jails and prisons and give hope to those who need it most. The purpose of Career Prep 2000 is to cultivate future professionals by providing social services and education for abused women and children, men and women transitioning from prison and the homeless. The organization upholds the belief that it costs much less to help restore lives and give individuals a chance to become productive citizens than it does to spend millions of dollars keeping them in prison where they may become more violent just to survive. With assistance from Career Prep 2000 clients can put their painful pasts behind them and become positive contributors to society.

In order to facilitate the rehabilitation process, Ms. Greene is currently building Nu Life Village, a community where the underprivileged will receive help to gain independence. Ms. Greene’s motivation for Nu Life Village comes from her personal experience of dealing with her own sons’ homelessness and imprisonment. As she went to courts and prison with them, she witnessed firsthand the holes in the System that ultimately lead to a feeling of hopelessness for thousands of people who do not know how to get help. She learned that good people who had been incarcerated for non-violent crimes would often turn to a life of violence just to survive in prison, and upon their release, would be without a job or a safe place to stay.

Residents at Nu Life Village will be provided with viable career and life skills, faith-based and peer-to-peer counseling, anger and time management instruction, employment readiness training and job placement. Participants will be selected based on their willingness to commit to the Program and on their desire to change themselves and their lives. They will leave Nu Life Village with money for housing and the skills necessary for a smooth transition into the workforce.

Ms. Greene is asking fellow Cambridge Who’s Who members for donations to aid in the construction of Nu Life Village and requesting that all have the compassion needed to give a second chance to those who want to better their lives.
